Dive into the medieval villages of the Costa Brava

Why cycle this route?

The inland Emporda offers a wide range of medieval villages in close proximity to each other.

On this route you will feel part of the history of the territory, you will arrive by roads with little traffic to each of the villages and you will be able to pedal through its almost deserted streets during the week ending at “Mare de Deu dels Angels Sanctuary” built at the one of the highest points of the Gavarres massif. It is an important pilgrimage center and it offers an extraordinary panoramic view of Girona, the Baix Empordà, the Medes Islands, the Pyrenees, the Montseny and the Guilleries. Salvador Dalí and Gala got married there on August 8, 1958.

Description

Another route to enjoy the Emporda in all its fullness combining the agricultural landscape with the various medieval villages.

Starting from Corçà, a town of antique dealers, you will head towards Monells where we recommend you to enter the medieval area until you reach its central square.

From Monells, direction Madremanya a stretch of road with very good asphalt and little traffic during the week with a landscape of fields that depending on the type of existing planting becomes a unique experience.

Arrived at Madremanya you will have the last part, of superior hardness to ascend to the Sanctuary of Nostra Senyors del Angels, the place where Gala and Dalí got married.
